Histological features. This retroperitoneal paraganglioma showed a characteristic ‘Zellballen’ architecture in the H&E sections (haematoxylin and eosin staining, H&E staining). The tumour cells were nest-like, arranged in a cribriform pattern and separated by a rich capillary network (H&E staining, a HE, × 100; b HE, × 400). The tumour had cells of different sizes and an abundant blood supply. Nuclei were deeply stained (H&E staining, magnification × 400) (c).
