Table 1 Inclusion and exclusion criteria

– Age ≥ 18 years;

– UC or IBDU requiring completion proctectomy with IPAA and who can be treated by both strategies;

– Affiliation with or benefitting from a social security system;

– Freely signed written informed consent form.

– Indications for total proctocolectomy in a one-stage or traditional two-stage fashion

– Crohn’s disease

– Pelvic radiotherapy

– Indications for total mesorectal excision

– Vulnerable patient under the French laws (e.g., minors, pregnant/breastfeeding women)

– Participation in another research protocol influencing the postoperative morbidity

– No consent to participle, or unable to give a written consent.
