The surgical procedure of merendino. a: After division of the distal esophagus and the fundus of the stomach, a 30 cm long pedunculated jejunal segment is prepared [1] and drawn upwards through the transverse mesocolon (arrow). b: The jejunal segment is hand-sutured end to side to the distal esofagus [2] and end to side to the minor curvature of the stomach [3], in an isoperistaltic fashion [4]. c: A partial anterior fundoplication is created by use of the most oral portion of the major curvature of the remaining stomach [5]
